What Are The Advantages Of Watching Satellite Tv On Your Home PC?

Computer hardware, software, and the vast infrastructure that constitutes our global communications network have made it not only possible but actually rather simple to enjoy the full benefits of satellite television from your home PC.
Is this legal?…. and is it free? Yes. Though that is a qualified yes depending on the specific television shows or movies you desire to watch. There are a range of methods to receive television content on your PC, including a high speed Internet connection, a satellite feed, a cable, or some combination of these methods. Before jumping in head first and setting satellite tv up on your PC, look at the true advantages of watching TV on your PC.
At present there are a lot of deeply ingrained cultural assumptions about what computers and televisions are for. Even though it is true that PC’s are becoming more and more popular as an entertainment tool, playing computer games, surfing the web, chatting online etc….. they are still more closely associated with the workplace, and the idea of work in general. By contrast, the TV is associated with the domestic realm, and to some would even be considered the most relaxing space and activity to undergo in the home. Using a computer is generally an active experience, however watching TV is passive…. stretching out and laying on the couch……. or snuggling up in bed and catching a movie.
This much is clearer if you take a step back and look at the body positioning of someone using a computer compared to that of a person watching TV. In front of a computer, we are leaning toward it (often more than good posture would allow) and inputting directly onto an attached keyboard and mouse. In front of a TV, we are detached, sitting in our favorite recliner or couch, and inputting via a remote. Also, using the computer is thought of a solitary affair, while TV viewing is a family affair, or at least a more social one.
All this is changing of course, with television growing more and more interactive as it becomes digital (and, the opposite is true, with computers becoming more and more social with high speed connections bringing people together through real time text, audio, and video transactions).
So how has the viewing quality of satellite tv developed? Over recent years, home PC technology has seen a major re-development, making using a computer on a daily basis a much more enjoyable, flexible and efficient experience. As a result computers have become more and more a part of our everyday life, and now a more logical way to watch TV. The majority of households have converted from the old box monitors and monotone speakers to widescreen lcd and high quality surround sound speaker and sub packages. For more information on correctly upgrading the picture and audio quality from your PC, or simply connecting your computer with your existing television and stereo setup, read our information on home theater for your pc.
In saying this, convergence looks to be the magic word in terms of telecommunications media at work and play. And, if you don’t mind blurring this distinction, convergence would be one of the most obvious benefits of setting up and receiving satellite TV on your household PC.
Convergence is not just about using the same device for business and pleasure, it’s about doing an array of different tasks at the same time or from the same place. If you choose, you can simply let yourself become sidetracked and surf the new while watching a slowmoving sporting event, or during the adbreaks of your favorite television series. You may remember to pay a forgotten bill while you are watching the nightly business news. You might even want to look up a few reviews of a movie that’s about to start but you haven’t decided whether or not to sit through it. You would also be able to easily access and play media on your TV (audio or video) that is stored on your computer. In general, convergence creates a network between your own personalized communication devices – phone, computer, television – that effectively enables them to “talk” to each other.
It’s the simple tasks you can achieve that make watching television on your PC a desirable option. You would accomplish all of the above multi-tasking by minimizing the TV content in a smaller window on your computer, while freeing up the rest of space for your other tasks. Of course, an adept multi-tasker may choose to watch one (or several) TV channels on multiple windows, while surfing the net, cooking dinner, and playing harmonica all at the same time.
Other benefits to watching TV on your computer arise from the ability to receive television shows that would be otherwise un-accessible for various reasons.
For example, with a high speed Internet connection and a media player (freely available software such as QuickTime or Windows Media Player), you can access some television content that may not otherwise be available to you in your location. The ability to watch remote content is then another benefit of watching TV on your PC. Such content might be foreign language programming that actually originates in a different country.
In addition, the television shows you enjoy and decide to watch online are not necessarily remote in a spatial sense; they can be “temporally” remote. For instance, you may be able to access a sports event that you would ordinarily receive much later in time through digital feeds that you can stream via the Internet.
Another common issue that watching TV on the computer solves is the ability to access shows that appeal to a smaller viewing market. Your computer opens up channels for content that falls outside what would be deemed mainstream or designed for the mass market. In this sense, it is a simple task to download TV that is said to be “narrowcast” – as opposed to broadcast – and designed to reach a multiplicity of smaller targeted audiences, rather than one massive homogenized one. Staunch advocates of narrowcasting believe that there is really no such thing as a mass audience anyway. Examples of niche marketing would include anything from religious sermons delivered in non-mainstream religions to cooking shows for, say, gluten-free vegans.
Before throwing out your old television set and coming over to the PC side, make sure you are actually going to use your PC TV technology, research your options, and find the most suitable satellite tv software for your needs.

Satellite TV for PC: FAQs Answered

Satellite TV for PC: Frequently Asked Questions AnsweredA while back on TechnologyCurrent.com I had a post about a piece of software I found that allowed users to stream satellite TV to their computers. Many of my readers had questions about the legitimacy of this software. I have tested a couple programs and the results vary greatly. Here are some of the frequently asked questions I received. What exactly is TV for PC software?TV for PC programs was designed with the thought of allowing users to stream televisions programs straight to their computer via the internet. The satellite signals are streamed through an ISP and then on to you.Is watching television on my computer legal?Yes! It is legal to install and run these programs on your computer. Remember that the majority of channels watched on TV are air free channels anyway. Instead of a television and an antenna, you have a computer and the internet.  The TV for PC software is just the means by which the signals are located and interpreted, so that you may view them on your personal computer. Is this software for the US only? No. All of the programs I have tested all have channels broadcasting from pretty much all over the world. For those of you in a country other than the United States, or those of you in the US looking to watch foreign channels you’re in luck. The software that I use personally supports English, Spanish, French, Italian and more.Exactly what kind of channels will I have access to?I can view just about any channel that my basic cable provider offers. Also included are hundred of internet only stations. I have found that PPV events have also shown up on my programming as well, including sports events!  Certain TV to PC programs offer premium channels such as HBO and Cinemax! Are there really no monthly fees or hidden charges? If you run across a company that charges a monthly fee run! What would be the point, you could just stick with paying Comcast or Direct TV. Most reputable TV to PC brands charge a one time fee. Satellite Direct TV is the software that has impressed me the most, and they charge a one time free of $49.99. I have tried less expensive ones and I noticed that the channel selection wasn’t what I wanted and neither was the video quality. I have also tested more expensive programs and the only difference was they had more channels. Unfortunately the extra channels turned out to be a bunch or programming I had no interest in. The foreign channel feature is nice but I only speak one and a half languages so I didn’t see the need to pay more for channels I’d never watch.I suggest everyone do their own research before purchasing any software. You needs may vary from mine or others. But as current user of Satellite Direct TV, I consider them head and shoulder above the competition.

Cable Internet TV – The Many Benefits of Watching Live TV on the Internet

A few years down the road, we might all be watching television on our computers. Lots of people today prefer to watch television to the Internet, and this number is increasing steadily. The fact is, broadband or cable Internet TV is a fast and convenient way to watch our favorite televisions shows.
Listed below are some of the advantages of watching TV on the Internet:
1. A Cost-Effective Alternative – Internet TV eliminates the need for costly satellite or cable TV subscriptions. A number of websites already offer free TV broadcasts. There are also subscription-based or one-time-fee based services that offers more channels and even better service. Compared to how much you pay for satellite/ cable subscription, the costs of Internet TV is miniscule.
2. Truly Global Variety of Channels – Imagine getting thousands of channels from all over the globe, even those that are regulated by governments. Broadband or Cable Internet TV is a true democratic window into today’s world.
3. Effortless Implementation – No need to buy any special hardware or pay hefty installation fees. Most computers today are more than capable of handling live streaming videos (unless your PC is a dinosaur.) The only real necessity is a steady Internet connection.
4. Available Anytime, Anywhere – You can watch what you want, when you want it. This is one of the biggest benefits of Internet TV. Aside from live streaming broadcasts you also get to access movies, episode reruns, documentaries and a lot more. This is a great way for expatriates and globetrotters to keep in touch with what’s happening at home.
5. Wide-Variety of Programming – Cable Internet TV has a lot to offer to the die-hard TV buff. How does having 3000+ TV channels to choose from sound? That’s significantly more than what most cable/satellite TV services can offer.
6. Greater Interactivity – The Internet is a two-way medium, which allows for instant interactivity. Imagine getting to vote for your next American Idol – as the show airs – in real time. The truly creative can utilize this interactive medium and transform how we watch television in ways that are yet to be seen.
Cable Internet TV is set to change the way we watch television within the next few years to come. It’s easy, convenient and can save you thousands of dollars on cable/satellite subscriptions every year. If you want to watch TV anytime, anywhere, and for a lot less money then Internet Television is definitely for you.
The biggest reason to watch world TV online is to eliminate expensive TV subscription costs. There are many free Internet television providers whose channels line-up far surpasses what cable/satellite TV can offer. Even those paid Internet TV providers (with even bigger TV offerings) would only ask for a small one-time setup fee. Total costs are just a fraction compared to what you pay annually on cable/Satellite subscription.
There are many merits to watching world TV online. And the technology is still in its infancy! A few years down the road and we may see a whole new level of TV experience altogether. For now if you want to save a lot of money while getting tons of TV channels from all over the globe, then online TV is your best option.

Choose a Quality LCD Flat Screen TV From One of These Two From Hitachi and Sharp

Now available in all types (and colours), television sets have certainly changed over the years moving on from cathode ray to digital and now LCD TV sets that we assume to be the norm today. Ask most people to list their most essential item or possession and a large number will list their TV as very high up on the list.

Much like the conventional approach to driving a car and our understanding of how the Internal Combustion Engine works (or not depending on your point of view) very few people understand entirely what happens behind the screen of a TV or do they? The word television is derived from a mixed usage of Greek and Latin roots meaning in literary terms ?far sight? and being derived from the Greek term ?tele? meaning ?far? and the Latin ?vision? meaning ?sight? or ?to view in the first person?.

Understandably if you were to ask the average man in the street his biggest issue with television today most would reply that the one problem they have is an increasing dependency on technological terms and an increasing ignorance of what these terms actually mean.

Now would be a good idea to concentrate purely on the digital aspect of television, its latest developments formats and bandwidth issues in use and exactly what all this technical jargon and terminology actually mean.

How would you define Digital TV? Digital television is a telecommunications system for broadcasting and receiving moving pictures and sound by means of digital signals in contrast to the more established analogue systems which is effectively the transmission of signals used by analogue (traditional) TV.

So what is it exactly that we have to look out for with a Digital TV? Let us use one of the newer LCD TV?s available to help us as we detail what exactly this all means.

The following items of information have to be understood before you can make a proper valued judgement regarding your new Digital TV?

The Screen resolution of the TV is possibly the most obvious place to start. In this case it refers to the number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed.

Next up is whether the TV is Hi-Definition Ready and what does this mean? By Hi Definition Ready we mean that is the TV is ready and suitable to take advantage of the latest Hi Definition TV pictures that more and more programmes are being broadcast in.

We would need to look next at what types of connectors are used to connect the various peripherals that go to make the entire Digital Package work.

In this case we mean SCART Plugs and sockets and their usage. SCART stands for ?Syndicat francais des Constructeurs d?Appareils Radio et Television (SCART).

The final item we would look at would be what is the nature and number of the High-Definition Multimedia Interfaces (HDMI) being used. Here High Definition Multimedia Interfaces (HDMI) refers to the audio/video connector interface that transmits the uncompressed digital streams of information between two or more digital components such as a HD DVD Disc player, a Blu-ray Disc player, a Personal Computer or Video Console.

The first LCD TV that we recommend that you take a look at here is the Hitachi 32LD9700

The 32LD9700 is a 32in LCD TV these TV’s at present can be found in the region of 1000 pounds sterling or 2000 US dollars. The screen resolution is 1366 X 768 and with regards to being HD ready the answer is yes. The Hitachi has 3 (2 RGB) scarts and the type and number of multimedia interfaces the the 32LD9700 uses is HDMI also 2. The type of tuner for this TV is Analogue also Digital and the Hitachi 32LD9700 is available from a wide number of outlets..

So to take an initial view how would we rate Hitachi 32LD9700? Well it is a TV after all and as such the logical place to start would be the picture and our score here would be 10 out of 10, next we would look at the sound quality and our view of this would be 10 out of 10. Connectivity is important for most of these new media TV Sets and such our score would be 8 out of 10 . With regards to the overall level of features, our view would be 10 out of 10 if we then take a look at the ease of use and overall value for money then our scores would be 10 along with 10 out of 10 respectively..

The overall verdict would be WOW what can you say but that this is one of those TV’s that excel in almost every thing it is supposed to do. Described as a “Superb All-rounder”, there is not much that this TV does not achieve. If you can get your hands on one of these then go for it.

Next we recommend that you look at the Sharp Aquos LC-37GD1E

The LC-37GD1E is a 37in LCD TV with these TV’s at present can be found in the region of 3500 pounds sterling or 7000 US dollars. The screen resolution is 1366 X 768 and with regards to being HD ready the answer is yes. The Sharp has 3 (2 RGB) scarts and the type and number of multimedia interfaces the the LC-37GD1E uses is DVI also 1. The type of tuner for this TV is Analogue as well as Digital and the Sharp Aquos LC-37GD1E is available from limited outlets only.

So to take an initial view how would we rate Sharp Aquos LC-37GD1E? Well it is a TV after all and as such the logical place to start would be the picture and our score here would be 10 out of 10, next we would look at the sound quality and our view of this would be 10 out of 10. Connectivity is important for most of these new media TV Sets and such our score would be 10 out of 10 . With regards to the overall level of features, our view would be 8 out of 10 if we then take a look at the ease of use and overall value for money then our scores would be 8 and 8 out of 10 respectively..

The overall verdict would be This is one of those top of the range LCD TVs that is well capable of beating Plasma displays at their own game and would appear to be another winner from Sharp and yet another great product in their Aquos range. That having been said it is still slightly on the expensive side.

With regards to the prices in this article we have tried in all cases to take an average across the industry from a number of well known web sites and so we ask you to bear this in mind and treat these prices as advisory only rather than absolutes.
